Is it Necessary or Just Good?

21 September 2026
Scripture in this reflectionPsalm 27:14

Welcome to another beautiful week. I trust the start of the new week to bring you blessings.

You know, one of the hardest things to let go of is not always something bad.

Sometimes it is something good.

A good opportunity.

A good community.

A good routine.

A good commitment.

Something that once added value to your life.

And that is the exact reason why we struggle to release it.

But something does not have to be bad for it to no longer belong in your current season.

Sometimes it has simply become noise.

And noise is interesting because it does not always sound unpleasant.

Sometimes noise is just too many good voices speaking at the same time.

Too many things requiring your attention.

Too many things you are trying to maintain.

Too many places you feel responsible to be present and show up in.

Too many good ideas competing with the one thing that matters most right now.

And gradually, you can become so surrounded by good things that you struggle to hear what God is actually highlighting.

Sometimes the tension of a season is that there may be many things you could do.

Many things that are worthy.

Many things that make sense.

But there may still be one thing God is asking you to recognise.

The Psalmist boldly declared "One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after..." Psalm 27:14.

And dearest sister [FIRST NAME GOES HERE], discernment is not only about knowing right from wrong.

Sometimes it is knowing good from necessary.

Knowing what you need to release, not because it has become bad, but because it has become noise drowning out the voice of God.

And this is where reinvention by revelation a phrase I first heard from my mentor becomes so important.

Because you cannot always choose the necessary by looking at what everyone else is doing.

You choose the necessary by paying attention to what God is revealing.

You re-author your life based on that revelation.

Your priorities become clearer.

Your yes becomes more intentional.

Your no becomes less guilt-filled.

And the things that once felt equally important begin to separate themselves into what is simply good and what is truly necessary for this season.

So this week, perhaps the question is not:

What do I need to add to my life?

Maybe it is:

What has become noise in this season?

And alongside that:

What is God revealing as necessary right now?

What are you carrying simply because it is good, familiar, or expected?

May God give you the wisdom to recognise what belongs in this season, the courage to release what does not, and the clarity to build your life around what He is revealing rather than the noise of expectations.
