What Are You Doing With the Promise?
Welcome to a new week. This is me wishing you a week full of God's goodness
“You shall bear a son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.”
For many of us, we can remember prophecies that have been spoken over our lives:
“You are a mighty vessel for God.”
“God will use you.”
And lots more.
Prophecies are exciting.
But prophecies are God’s instruments for the fulfilment of purpose, not just for excitement.
The person who has the promise must intentionally grow into becoming that promise.
Sometimes we seem to get stuck praying for the promise.
“God, when?”
“When will this be?”
“Lord, bring it to pass now.”
We know what God has said, and because we believe it, we are waiting eagerly to see it happen.
But what if there is something for us to do between the promise and its fulfilment?
Years after Mary received the promise about Jesus, we see her at the wedding in Cana.
When the wine ran out, Mary brought the situation to Jesus, but His response was , "my time has not come" in essence Not yet!
And I find Mary’s response to him very fascinating.
She didn’t press Him to ensure it became now.
She didn’t argue.
She didn’t try to force the timing.
She trusted that the time would come.
But she also knew she had a part to play.
So she got to work.
She turned to the servants and said:
“Whatever He tells you to do, do it.”
She couldn’t determine when Jesus would act, but she could make sure that when He did, there were people positioned to obey.
A question begs answering and that is:
What am I preparing while I am praying?
It is possible to spend so much time asking God to fulfil the promise that we forget to ask Him what our responsibility is in preparing for it.
Maybe you believe God will use you.
Are you growing in character?
Are you learning?
Are you allowing Him to refine you?
Maybe you believe God has called you to something.
Are you developing the capacity to carry it?
Maybe you are waiting for an opportunity.
What can you put in place now so that if the door opened tomorrow, you would be ready?
We see in Mary's life, before we even got to know her name in Luke 1, we got to know something about her purity.
She was already becoming before the angelic announcement came.
And even after the promise came, she continued to ask questions, to ponder things in her heart, to surround herself with people of faith and to grow in understanding.
The promise didn’t make preparation unnecessary.
The promise gave her preparation direction.
Sometimes faith is moving from repeatedly asking, “God, when?” and to saying:
“Lord, I trust that You will do what You said. Show me what I need to be doing now.”
So, dear what promise are you praying about?
And what are you doing with it?
Don’t just wait for God’s timing.
Prepare for it.
Keep walking. Keep believing. Keep becoming the amazing woman God already sees.
Yours in walking and becoming,
Teim❤️
