The Safer Choice Isn't Always the Better One
Good afternoon and a lovely new week to you.
You know, I recently had a rethink of the Parable of the Talents, and something struck me this time.
When the master returned, the servant explained why he had buried his talent:
“I was afraid, so I hid it.”
Fear led to hiding.
And as I thought about that, my mind went to the very first instance of hiding in the Bible. After Adam and Eve sinned, God called out to Adam, and he replied:
“I heard You in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Again, fear led to hiding.
As I began peeling back the layers of that fear, I realised that underneath it was something else: self-protection.
Adam was protecting himself from exposure.
The servant was trying to protect what had been entrusted to him.
In fact, his reasoning almost sounds sensible.
He didn’t want to lose the master’s money.
And if you think about it, the easiest way not to lose something is not to use it at all.
No risk.
No possibility of failure.
No chance of getting it wrong.
It’s a bit like investing. If you never invest your money, there’s no risk of losing money through an investment. There's also a good chance you'll never experience the growth you're hoping for by simply holding on to everything.
And I wonder if we sometimes approach our gifts the same way.
We hold back because it feels safer.
We don’t start because we might fail.
We don’t share because we might be rejected.
We don’t step out because we might get it wrong.
Then there’s another thought that often creeps in:
“Someone else is already doing it.”
I know I’ve thought that before.
When I started this podcast, I wondered what made this space any different. There are many wonderful podcasts talking about faith, identity, confidence and purpose.
But over time I’ve realised something.
God already knew that.
He saw all of those voices before He entrusted me with this assignment.
And He still gave it to me.
I’ve come to realise that even the way I share, the way I tell stories, the way I connect ideas, and the experiences God has walked me through are all part of how He’s called me to serve the women He has entrusted to this space.
And Sis, the same is true for you.
There is a uniqueness to how God has called you to carry what He’s placed in your hands.
Imagine a crowd of thirsty people.
You have water.
But instead of giving it to them, you’re worried because the bottle isn’t fancy enough. The cup isn’t gold. The water isn’t flavoured or enriched with electrolytes.
Meanwhile, the people are still thirsty.
What they need is the water.
And perhaps that’s the reminder for us this week.
There is someone waiting on the other side of your obedience.
So this week, maybe it is time to ask yourself :
Have I used what God has given me or has my desire to protect myself become more important than the call?
Keep walking. Keep believing. Keep becoming the amazing woman God already sees.
Yours in walking and becoming,
Teim❤️
