Your Body: The Temple That Carries Your Assignment

6 July 2026
Scripture in this reflection1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I trust you week has started on a beautiful note.

You know I was reflecting on the ancient temple in Israel and something that became apparent was.

The temple was never treated casually.

There was order.

There were boundaries.

There were things that were permitted and things that were not. Certain people could enter specific places, while others could not. Those who served in the temple had responsibilities, and there were guards whose role was to protect its holiness.

The temple was precious because it belonged to God. Its value wasn't just about its splendid architecture but the presence of the One who dwelt within it.

It made me wonder...

If Scripture describes our bodies as temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6: 19-20), shouldn't there also be thoughtful stewardship over what we allow into them?

Perhaps the question isn't simply, "Is chocolate good or bad?" or "Should I eat this or avoid that?"

The deeper question is: “Does this deserve access to God’s temple?”

Whether that's food.

What we watch.

What we listen to.

The relationships we cultivate.

The pace at which we live.

The amount of rest we allow ourselves.

The habits we practise day after day.

Every “yes” gives something access.

Every “no” protects something valuable.

From the very beginning, God chose to work through a human body. After forming Adam from the dust, He breathed life into him, and that living body became the instrument through which humanity would fulfil God’s command to cultivate the earth, exercise dominion, and reflect His image.

God’s purposes have always been carried through people. And people live in bodies.

Your body is not your identity, but it is the vessel that carries your identity into the world.

It is the instrument through which you love your family, serve your community, fulfil your calling, worship, work, create, and care for others.

Looking after ourselves is not merely following the latest wellness trend. Nor is it pursuing a perfect appearance. It is an act of stewardship.

Scripture reminds us that we were bought with a price. Our bodies ultimately belong to God.

Imagine if someone entrusted you with something precious on loan. You would likely handle it carefully, maintain it well, and return it in good condition—not because you worshipped the object, but because you honoured the one who entrusted it to you.

Our bodies deserve that same mindset. Because they have been entrusted to us by the One who is our King.

So today, instead of asking, “How do I look?” perhaps ask a different question: “How am I stewarding the body that carries my God-given assignment?”

Before you go, I'd love to ask one small favour.
