The hidden lesson in roundabouts

Scripture in this reflection2 Corinthians 4:8-9

Good evening lovely sis,

This week, while driving to the shops with my sons, we somehow ended up having a conversation about buses and roundabouts.

I know. Of all things to talk about!

But what started as a simple observation turned into one of those conversations that was surprisingly deep and filled with lessons.

We talked about bus routes and how each bus has a specific destination and a specific path it follows.

Then we moved on to roundabouts.

I asked my son how a roundabout might compare to life, and his answer surprised me.

He said that without clear direction, you wouldn’t know which exit to take. He also said that the Holy Spirit guides us just like a satnav, helping us know which way to go.

Talk about out of the mouths of babes!

The more I reflected on it, the more I realised how true it is.

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming because we are standing in the middle of a roundabout, surrounded by options, decisions, challenges, and uncertainties.

In those moments, it can feel as though we are stuck.

But perhaps we are not stuck at all.

Perhaps we simply need direction.

Sometimes we look at a roundabout situation and call it a dead end.

We assume there is no way forward when, in reality, there are multiple exits available. What we lack is the clarity, wisdom, or understanding to know which one to take.

And that brings me to this week’s podcast episode.

We are talking about overwhelm and why it is not always a sign that you cannot handle a situation. Sometimes it is simply a sign that there is a gap in knowledge, wisdom, understanding, or perspective.

The good news is that God has not left us to navigate life’s roundabouts alone. Through His Word, His Spirit, and His wisdom, He provides the direction we need for the journey. We can be certain that God is faithful. Because of that, even when we are pressed on every side, we can be reassured that we will not be crushed. We may be perplexed, but we do not have to despair.

Reflection Question

What situation in your life currently feels overwhelming, and what might change if you viewed it as a roundabout rather than a dead end?
