The gift called people
Good morning to you.
I wonder if you’ve ever become so good at helping others that you forgot you were allowed to need help too.
You become the encourager.
The one people call.
The one who prays.
The one who checks in.
The one who remembers birthdays, notices when people are struggling, and somehow finds the right words to say.
And after a while, something subtle begins to happen.
You start believing that being strong means carrying everything by yourself.
That needing support is for other people.
That asking for help is a sign that you’re not coping well enough.
But recently, the journey to the cross took on another meaning for me.
Jesus allowed Himself, when the weight of the cross became too much, to be helped by Simon of Cyrene, whom the Roman soldiers had compelled to help.
I came to realise in an even deeper way that needing help is common to man.
It is not failure but design.
Hence why God told us in His Word to bear one another’s burdens.
Because God knew that even the strongest people have limits.
Even the people who pour into others get tired.
Even the people who carry burdens need somewhere to lay them down.
The danger is not that we become weak.
The danger is that we become isolated.
Because we can feel unable to reveal the struggling version of ourselves when we are used to only showing the strong part.
Many times, strength isn’t refusing help.
It is having the humility to receive it.
And maturity is recognising when it is time to stop carrying a burden by yourself.
Jesus in the garden told His friends that He was overwhelmed with sorrow and asked them to pray for Him.
He didn’t pretend all was well.
So this week, maybe it is time to ask yourself a different question:
Who knows how I’m really doing?
Keep walking. Keep believing. Keep becoming the amazing woman God already sees.
Yours in walking and becoming,
Teim❤️
