A vulnerable moment (and a question for you)

30 March 2026
Key reflectionMaking amends never reduces us.

It’s the last few days of March—and already a quarter of the year is gone. What a month it has been. Time really does seem to fly.

As we wrap up our month-long journey into Identity, I want to turn the spotlight on something subtle—but deeply revealing.

It’s not just what we say about ourselves, or what we believe in theory. It’s what we quietly resist doing.

The things that feel beneath us.

If you’re anything like me, you have them too. Certain roles, certain acts of service, or certain moments where something in us pulls back—not always loudly, but just enough to hesitate.

But have you ever stopped to ask what that hesitation is actually revealing?

I don’t think it’s random. I think it’s a direct window into our identity. When a task feels "beneath" you, it’s rarely about the task itself. It’s about the narrative you’re afraid it writes: Will this make me look small? What will people think? Will I lose my dignity?

Recently, this showed up in my life. Someone made a simple request, and I felt that familiar resistance rise up. I didn’t want to do it. But as I sat with that “no,” I realised it had very little to do with the request or the person who made it… and everything to do with me.

There was something in my identity that still felt unsettled.

So I went back, apologised, and made amends.

I’ve felt that same tension in my parenting too— that hesitation to admit I was wrong because of how it might make me look.

But here is what I’m learning: Making amends never reduces us. It actually strengthens what matters.

I didn't handle everything perfectly— but I chose humility over image.

And I think that’s the invitation for us.

To begin noticing where we hesitate to go low… and to gently ask why.

Not with condemnation— but with curiosity.

Because those moments are often pointing us toward areas where our identity still needs to be rooted more deeply.

What if true security looks like this:

Being able to serve without overthinking how it reflects on you. Being able to choose humility without feeling like you’re becoming less. Being able to love without constantly measuring what it costs your image.

Maybe this week isn’t about doing more.

Maybe it’s about noticing.

Noticing where you pull back. Noticing what feels uncomfortable. Noticing what feels “beneath you.”

And instead of avoiding it… letting it teach you something.

A gentle question to carry with you this week: Where do I hesitate to go low—and what does that reveal about what I believe about myself?

Don’t judge yourself for the resistance. Just notice it. Sometimes, the places we resist most are the very places God is inviting us into deeper freedom.
